About the Teacher Resignation Letter
A teacher resignation must be considered alongside the applicable contract, school system and state rules. A generic letter does not secure a release, protect a certificate or establish completion of student-service obligations.
For the covered Texas school-district probationary, continuing and term contracts, sections 21.105, 21.160 and 21.210 allow a penalty-free end-of-school-year resignation by written filing with the board or its designee no later than the 45th day before the next school year's first instructional day. The statutory certified or registered mailing route has a mailing-date rule. At other times, the statutes provide for board or designee consent. A principal-only email is not automatically proof that the statutory recipient and filing requirements were met.
Missing the 45-day deadline does not automatically mean suspension or revocation. Those sections include a 30-day protection against suspension or revocation, mitigating-factor review and specified grounds on which sanctions may not be imposed. These protections are distinct from the penalty-free timely-filing route. Keep the actual calendar, contract, filing proof, consent and supporting facts.
Student records, special-education responsibilities and any actual transfer must be handled through the authorized school process. A transition sentence in the letter does not prove performance or defeat a claim about services.

Prepare and deliver your letter
Confirm the dates
Check the employment agreement, applicable law, collective bargaining agreement and any public-service or professional rules before choosing a date. A one-week or two-week letter records the notice you give; it does not establish that the period is sufficient for your job.
Identify the recipient
Use the person or office required by the applicable agreement or rule. Confirm the permitted delivery method and keep evidence of timely receipt or filing.
State your decision
Identify your position and exact final employment date. If the last working shift differs, explain that distinction without treating a proposed date as an agreed release.
Choose any explanation
Use a truthful explanation at the level of detail appropriate for this letter. Keep separate leave, benefit and complaint procedures distinct.
Limit any transition offer
Include only help you can actually offer during the stated period. A proposed handover is not a certificate that work, patient transfer or student obligations have been completed.
Keep records
Retain the letter, delivery evidence and any response. Request final-pay and benefit information separately where needed.
