What Is a Dirt Bike Bill of Sale?
A dirt bike bill of sale is the legal document that transfers ownership of an off-road motorcycle from one party to another. Dirt bikes occupy a unique legal space: most are not street legal, most are not titled, and most do not have a 17-character federal VIN. Yet they routinely sell for $3,000–$12,000 in the used market — and a Stark Varg or factory-edition KTM can clear $14,000. At those prices, a written record of the sale is non-negotiable.
The form must distinguish between competition motocross bikes, off-road enduros, dual-sport motorcycles with road plates, and electric dirt bikes. Each category has different identification, registration, and emissions rules. A Honda CRF450R is identified by its frame stamp and treated as off-road equipment; a Honda CRF300L is identified by its 17-character VIN and titled and plated like any other motorcycle.
In most states, dirt bikes ridden on public lands require an Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) registration sticker. California uses the famous green-sticker / red-sticker system tied to CARB emissions compliance. Other states issue OHV decals through the DMV or fish-and-wildlife agency. The bill of sale is the document that the new owner takes to the agency to obtain or transfer the sticker.
Whether you are selling a YZ250F to a privateer racer, buying a used CRF110 for your kid, or moving a dual-sport KTM 500 EXC-F across state lines, our bill of sale template captures every field you need for a clean, defensible transfer.

OHV Registration & Green Sticker
Most states require an OHV (Off-Highway Vehicle) registration sticker for dirt bikes ridden on public lands. Each state runs its own program, and the bill of sale is the document the new owner brings to the DMV or wildlife agency.
- California: Green sticker (CARB-compliant, year-round) or Red sticker (limited season) — California DMV.
- Arizona: OHV decal through ADOT.
- Idaho / Utah / Colorado: Annual OHV registration sticker through state parks or wildlife agency.
- Wisconsin / Pennsylvania: Issue actual OHV titles for dirt bikes.
